Umit Benan Spring 2013: Staged reality

It seems as if fashion is taking quite an interesting turn by employing theatrics. Well, at least for some designers. For one, Umit Benan made his theatrical point by staging an interesting presentation through his Spring 2013 Menswear show. With beds lined up by the side, there was a simulation of interacting couples on each, and it spoke of a certain everyday truths. And in all honesty, this was a potent staging and ever more so, it definitely satiated the 'voyeurs' in all of us. Well, it was staged but then again, it was one that succeeded in bringing intimacy and honesty to the plate.

Of course, not forgetting, this was an apt following of his previous show which gave viewers a full look into the ongoings of a fictitious military dormitory. The military theme itself was interpreted with a certain worn-downed charm which felt altogether fresh. Apart from Style.com's no nonsense summary of every show - led by the venerable Tim Blanks himself - i'm excited by Homotography's excellent photo documentation of the show's backstage.
